‘Time for action’: Bullants need your support as club returns to Preston name

A major announcement from the Preston Football Club.

The Preston Football Club is excited to confirm the club’s return to the historic and rightful ‘Preston’ name.

As flagged earlier this year, the club is returning to the name that it has competed under for almost all football seasons since forming in 1882.

Today’s announcement is on the 30th anniversary of the last game played under the ‘Preston Bullants’ name in the VFA. On 20 August 1995, in round 17, Preston played Werribee away from home.

From 1996 until 1999, the club was known as the Preston Knights, and from 2000 until 2011, it was known as the Northern Bullants – a name that returned in 2021 for the club’s rebirth as a standalone side, following eight years as the Northern Blues in between.

Neil Howard, President of the Preston Football Club, says “the day has arrived”.

“There has been lots of talk about Preston returning to its historical name, on a ground that is recognised because of its age and historical significance.

“Now is the time to stand tall and proud, and dig deep into your pockets to return Preston to a financial position where it can once again take its rightful position amongst the powerhouse clubs of the VFL (formerly VFA) such as Port Melbourne, Williamstown, Sandringham, Coburg, Werribee, and Frankston.”

The President emphasised the importance of the community getting around the club.

“Whilst we enjoy banter and feedback on social media, it’s now time to be positive and donate – time for action and less words – and time to dig deep”.

The club can also confirm the opening of its merchandise shop at Genis Steel Oval, where supporters can buy club apparel. Online purchases are currently not available.
