Longtime Preston volunteer passes away, aged 59.

The Preston Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of longtime volunteer and clubman Mark Cleary.
Born on 5 July 1966, Mark Francis Cleary began supporting Preston in the 1970s and continued doing so until his passing. He served on the Preston Football Club Committee for around 3-4 years during the late 1980s early 1990s. His father, Frank Cleary, is a life member of the Preston Football Club.
Mark was also an active volunteer in many areas of the club over a long period of time. His presence was also felt online, regularly commenting support and providing information to other supporters.
His family tells us Mark was also strongly passionate about the history of the VFL and "may be known for his knowledge of every single stat ever".
In May 2022, Mark wrote about a reunion of past players and officials, where he proudly wore his 32-year-old Bullants jacket:
"How good was it seeing the PFC logo on the jumper like the good old days – that's what everyone was wrapped to see and the boys displayed that spirit but couldn't quite get over the line.
"Bring on the next reunion and I'll see you all next Sunday at the Bullants v Geelong game. Just look for the retro jacket."
Mark passed away earlier this week on 9 December 2025. Preston sends its condolences to Mark's family and friends.
A memorial service for Mark will be held at Sacred Heart Church Preston on Thursday, 18 December, beginning at 11am. It will be followed by a celebration of Mark at the Stolberg Hotel Preston (Mahogany Room).
