The Preston Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former VFA player Mervyn 'Nugget' Snelson.

Born on 29 June 1932, Mervyn was a left-footer who played for the club in the 1950s.

Newspaper articles from the 1953 pre-season noted Mervyn as a promising winger. That same year, he was awarded "Popular Player" for the club's seconds (reserves) team and is understood to have finished high in the seconds best-and-fairest count. His family says he loved his time at Cramer Street.

The Snelson family shared this image of the trophy he was awarded, which reads: "P.F.C. 2nd. XVII Popular Player 1953 – M. Snelson".
